Cart and Wagon Shed

Cart and Wagon Shed

Set on the edge of the Thames Estuary, the Grade II listed Cart and Wagon Shed is an early example of a prefabricated iron‑frame military building, dating back to around 1860. It sits at the heart of the redeveloped Shoeburyness Garrison, surrounded by historic architecture, Gunners Park and beautiful and interesting estuary views.

Now home to a new heritage and visitor centre, the building draws on the military history of Shoeburyness, the Shoebury Archives and artefacts, and the rich natural landscape of the surrounding nature reserve.

Inside, the venue offers:

  • A heritage exhibition hall

  • Archive and display areas

  • Community rooms available for hire

  • A welcoming café run by Serendipity Café Southend CIC

  • Outdoor garden space

Shoebury Coastal CIC, a not‑for‑profit organisation formed in 2016, manages the building to ensure its long‑term future as a community and heritage hub. Supported by Southend‑on‑Sea City Council, the centre provides space for local groups, not‑for‑profit organisations and visitors to enjoy.

Address:

Warrior Square Road, Shoeburyness, SS3 9PZ
